Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer responsible for many legendary styles worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, including the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

Price's death comes just weeks after he unveiled his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping form-fitting garments established him as a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles mourns the loss to a true visionary whose influence on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
