Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for questions to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Slot lamented familiar weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period of this nature with results so bad.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
