England to Begin UEFA Euro 2028 Quest at City’s Home Ground

The England national team will commence their Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they secure the anticipated passage for a championship taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an Three Lions match since eight years ago, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is almost certain to welcome the national team for their opening fixture on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The team are set to play their final two group matches at the national stadium, but, should they win their group, their round of 16 match would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean commencing the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Kickoff and Rally

The tournament was inaugurated at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from Uefa and the host FAs were confronted as they entered the site by around fifty protesters, who called for the Israeli team to be kicked out from global football because of the Gaza crisis.

Signs were raised with messages reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Timeline

The first match of the European Championship will be staged at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a match that will involve Wales if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be staged on Sunday 9 July with a kick-off time at 5pm.

It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for UEFA Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will appeal to families and help engage a more diverse set of viewers.

Host Nations

The Irish team are set to play their initial fixture at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would play similarly at the national stadium of Scotland.

The national sides of all four hosts will participate in the qualification process; two automatic spots will be held in reserve for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through the qualification path.

Venues and Playoffs

Aston Villa’s stadium and Spurs’ ground complete the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one elimination game, with the last eight held at each country’s national stadium.

The qualification draw will be staged in Belfast, which was excluded as a venue city last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be redeveloped in time, on a date in late 2026.

Tournament Vision

“This will be a competition for the supporters and a celebration of everything we cherish about the football – its emotion and power to unite individuals.”

In excess of three million tickets, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are projected to be made available to attendees.
