Declan Rice Set-pieces from dead balls and free-kicks caused problems. Had license to move on the left but was in an offside position upon receiving in front of goal. Awarded a merited substitution on the hour mark. Six

The star midfielder Played in a forward role on the right and also put in defensive duties. Showed flashes of quality but dragged a shot high. Substituted late on by a teammate, his competition, following a yellow card. 7

Jarrod Bowen Was presented with England’s best chance of the first half, his strike smartly stopped by the opposing goalkeeper. As Quansah holding position, he was forced to offer an outlet on the right although his balls from the touchline varied in quality. Substituted with 15 to go. Six

The captain The decisive figure netting seventy-seventh and seventy-eighth goals in an England shirt. The opener a trademark close-range tap-in while the second a superb headed goal having drifted away from his marker.
