The American champion Assured of Being 'in a good place' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "in a good place" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, on the back of earning a podium spot for the fourth time in her last five World Cup competitions.

The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in the French Alps

Racing in the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I didn't quite have the right line on the first jump," the skier commented. "After that, I skied well. I'm pleased with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also claimed bronze in the downhill on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Injury

Vonn stepped away from competition in early 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 following a significant orthopedic procedure.

With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely.

She already possesses one gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the next Olympics.

"In Cortina, I will be in a good place," Vonn affirmed.

Chasing More Titles

Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has accumulated over a career spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the top of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup circuit features a total of nine races taking place before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
